No Margins

  • mar·gin
  • Pronunciation: \ˈmär-jən\
  • Function: noun
  • Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin margin-, margo border — more at mark
  • Date: 14th century
  • : a spare amount or measure or degree allowed or given for contingencies or special situations.
I've noticed we live in a trap that we have created and self-perpetuate. If we are not productive every second of the day we feel like something is wrong. Our families are maxed out with to much on our calendars. Our corporations have a horrible work/life balance. We don't have any space for margins in life. We are to busy to have down time. We are strapped financially, we live in debt and have no wiggle room. These entities are not bad in and of themselves, but all things in moderation.

As we max out to the corners of our lives we restrict our freedom and enslave ourselves. The margins are where we would do more for each other, where we would have time to smell the roses, where we could ponder the depths of life, and where we could find rest. Let's undo the jail and take control of our lives. Create some margins in your life.

Maybe if we weren't all working to pay for the social security and care of the Baby Boomers (who spent their lock box monies on other things) then we'd have time to have lives.

Remember when a normal family was one working parent? Remember being in childhood sports because it was fun?

God, now I'm depressing myself.
