One's Observations

A collection of some things I observe along the way.

"U.S. job openings declined in October, a sign employers are reluctant to expand staff even as layoffs wane."

"Openings, or the number of jobs available as a percent of total employment, fell by 80,000 to 2.51 million, the Labor Department said today in Washington. The number of unfilled positions was down by 2.3 million, or 48 percent, since peaking in June 2007."

"Payrolls dropped in November by the fewest since the recession began in 2007, and the unemployment rate fell from a 26-year high, the Labor Department said last week. While firings are easing, the loss of 7.2 million jobs since the start of the slump is limiting consumer spending, one reason firms are hesitant to ramp up hiring." (
